Spanish dominate UEFA Cup last 16
03/08/07 17:17 A four-strong Spanish contingent led by title holders Sevilla pose the most menacing of threats in the UEFA Cup last 16 round which kicks-off on Thursday. The Spanish league leaders have one of the toughest tasks to progress to the quarter-finals as they face Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk. Sevilla's domestic rivals Celta Vigo also face a tough challenge in the shape of Germans Werder Bremen, who squeezed past Ajax 4-3 on aggregate in the previous round having only narrowly missed out on making the Champions League knock-out phase before that. 03/08/07 17:16 Zambia have cancelled two friendly internationals because only six players bothered to attend a training camp this week, officials said on Thursday. Planned matches against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Lubumbashi have been called off because of Zambia's inability to get a training squad together. Both matches and the training camp were arranged as warm-up matches ahead of the vital African Nations Cup qualifier against Congo in Pointe Noire on March 24. More.

03/08/07 17:14 After Julio Baptista did a Samba all over Spurs’ hopes to make it to the Carling Cup final, Coach Jol is hardly jolly about having to face more Brazilians as Portuguese club Sporting Braga are up next in today’s UEFA Cup clash in Portugal. To add insult to injury, Sporting Braga are nicknamed ‘Arsenalistas’ due to their kit being based on a certain north London club with a cannon on their badge. It’s a case of déjà vu for the Whitehart Lane boys as the blend brings uneasy memories flooding back. More.

Larsson: Replacement needed
03/08/07 17:11 Henrik Larsson has hinted that he could have been persuaded to stay at Manchester United, had Helsingborgs been able to find a replacement striker.
The forward has made a huge impact at Old Trafford since joining the club in the January transfer window, but his loan spell is drawing to a close as he will head back to Sweden next week. More.
