As many had predicted, the competition's first all-English final ended in penalties and ultimately it was van der Sar's full-length save from Nicolas Anelka that ensured United won the shoot-out 6-5 after the match had ended 1-1 after extra-time.

The Danang team returned 20 minutes later after Hoa reversed his decision and went on to win the game 3-2.

German champions Bayern Munich were also reported this month to have offered Gattuso a contract worth six million euros a year to leave AC Milan.

05/20/08 02:45
Thomas Doll resigned as coach of Borussia Dortmund after the side finished a disappointing 13th in the Bundesliga, the club said on Monday. Dortmund, the 1997 Champions League winners, said Doll had offered his resignation on Monday after a meeting with club executive Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc. Doll took over 14 months ago and led Dortmund into the German Cup final, where they were beaten by Bayern Munich. They qualified for the UEFA Cup next season because Bayern will be playing in the Champions League.
